Our painting of the week comes from the International Biennial Portrait Competition taking place at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wausau, Wisconsin through September 2, 2023.
The young, dynamic Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art is presenting the third edition of its International Biennial Portrait Competition, a program launched under the leadership of founder and executive director David Hummer. This year’s guest curator is the Calgary-based artist Aaron Sidorenko, who has selected 31 artists to participate.
The 2019 and 2021 editions won acclaim for bringing outstanding portraitists from around the world to the Midwest. In 2021, for example, the artists hailed from Australia, China, the Netherlands, Poland, Germany, Peru, England, Spain, and the U.S.
