Congratulations to Rosanna Gaddoni, whose charcoal drawing has been recognized in the monthly PleinAir Salon. Her work, “Vedetta Notturna” won the “Best Animals and Birds” category for June 2024.

“I grew up on a small farm in the north of Italy, surrounded by fields that changed colors with the natural cycle of the seasons,” Rosanna says in her Artist Statement. “I spent my summer days on the riverbanks behind my house, among wildflowers and the farm animals. In that small corner of Earth, there was nothing, yet I had everything I needed to feel blissful, I was surrounded by Life in every form.

“In my work, I still seek that presence of Life in the dance of lights and shadows, and the thrill of that perception never ceases to amaze me.

“I aim to represent the experience of Life through what I call ‘poetic realism,’ striving to capture the world and the human figure with honesty, combining a strong emphasis on drawing and values with my emotional involvement. I work primarily with charcoal and graphite on paper, finding them particularly fascinating for conveying the vibration and movement of Life in a representational style. Their restrained, monochromatic quality focus on line, tone, texture, and form without relying on color, which suggest me a sense of purity to the work.

“There is a subtle thread connecting all my artworks: they are points in a larger picture of devotion and respect for every form of Life and the immense privilege of perceiving the human journey in this remote corner of the universe we share.”
