“I don’t know where I would be without art,” said Fine Art Honorable Mention winner Shelby Wright. “It has enriched my life in more ways than I could ever imagine. My passion started in high school, where the fine arts wing was my home away from home. I was in theatre, three different choirs, orchestra, and multiple visual arts courses. Through my involvement, I came to realize that art is more than a hobby. It is a universal form of communication that digs far below the surface level…. I am very passionate about education, art, and connecting with others. This is why I have chosen to be a high school art teacher. I want to create a safe space where students can use art as a pleasant distraction to escape the turmoil of everyday life. After teaching for a few years, I plan on going to graduate school to get my masters degree in Art Therapy. Art is a powerful tool for expressing one’s feelings, so I want to share the joy of creativity with as many people possible.”
